Computers and Your Time

Posted

I was thinking today... specifically about computers and your time. You've probably heard this before, but when e-mail was invented it was meant to liberate us. No more snail mail, one could send instant messages to anyone around the world in a split second. E-mail actually as it turns out is probably everyone's #1 biggest daily time waster. I think it's important, especially people with anxiety to always be conscious of your power in any given situation. E-mails, Facebook, Instagram, general alerts, spam, web site went down, web site is broken, strange spending activity on your credit card, news notifications, credit card payment reminders, etc. all keep us in a heightened, alert, and guarded state. This is especially bad for someone already prone to anxiety. I think it makes sense as a daily practice to take the control back from the relationship we have with technology. Not let the technology dictate when we deal with a status updates, alerts, or notifications. We need to decide when we interact with the technology not the other way around. The alternative is letting a piece of technology control your behavior and ultimately wasting your time and distracting your from your true life's purpose.
