Top 3 Things That Have Helped Me With Anxiety

Posted

Here are the top 3 things that have helped with anxiety in my life.

1) Exercise

If I don't exercise my anxiety levels go up. 100% of the time when I exercise I feel better. I used to just lift weights, but noticed cardio group classes were on a different level.

Best classes: Fitness boxing, yoga classes, Cross Fit, bootcamp style classes, gong meditation classes to name a few.

2) Eat Well And Sleep well

Eating well consistently has helped immensely. That means taking supplements, getting in a protein shake, eating lots of fruits and vegetables, not overeating. Sticking to a consistent diet has been very important. That means even when going out with friends, family gatherings being aware of what I'm eating and drinking being careful not to overindulge.

Also, don't underestimate the power of getting a good nights sleep. I live in a very loud neighborhood so I've found using ear plugs and eye mask have improved my sleep quality. If you can't sleep don't beat yourself up over it, read a book and try again. Also, limit you coffee intake later in the day.

3) Plan For Fun

I think people with anxiety we just naturally have a tendency to go to the glass half empty side of life. I noticed that I must be aware of my thoughts. If I find I've being negative consciously try to shift my thoughts onto things that I'm grateful for. Get in a habit of being grateful for the things you have. Also, if you have a worry that you can't get over literally schedule time to worry about the problem and schedule time to take action to solve it or change the way you look at it. I find writing down my worries and things I need to do that are causing stress to be very helpful. Then I say to myself if it's not on the list I'm not going to worry about it. It makes your infinite number of worries finite to the list you've created.

Also, it's important that you plan fun activities and trips throughout the year, before the day arrives. Having things to look forward to and since it's scheduled you must do will help you through the tough days.

Expect everything will work out best case scenario. Since you're anxious it's really easy to expect things to not work out, change that and decide things WILL work out. If they don't who cares, the important thing is you tried. Any result is a success, any step in the direction you want your life to go is a success. You can control your actions, but of course you can't control outcomes. That is life, but you do your part and that's winning the game. Do your best and forget the rest.
